Photographer's Tribute
ASTRID Kirchherr was the stunning German girl who changed the image of the Fab Four. Her haunting photo-graphs in Hamburg first captured their earthy, sexy attraction and swept the fledgling group into the public eye more than 40 years ago.
She fell in love with the ill-fated Stuart Sutcliffe, the fifth Beatle, who tragically died in her arms after suffering a brain haemorrhage but stayed lifelong friends with all the Beatles and their inner circle.
Like so many from that close-knit band - such as Allan Williams their first manager - Astrid is incandescent with rage at folklore tale that John Lennon was responsible for his death following a fight and that the pair had a homosexual relationship.
"This is just so awful and so untrue. Surely I would have had an inkling of that," sighs Astrid, who will be visiting her beloved Liverpool again this summer to celebrate the lives of the Beatles she adored.
In Liverpool, Astrid will be launching her new book "When We Was Fab", a lavish publication of her lovely black and white photo-graphs from the early Beatles era.
"It is a very private book and it is a tribute to George Harrison, who was one of my favourite people of all time. It is a photographic autobiography for me," murmurs Astrid who confides that this Genesis publication - the outfit that helped compile the historic Beatles Anthology - features a number of photos never seen before.
But Astrid is now also determined to wind up her storytelling about those wonderful Beatles days. "I am tired of endlessly repeating the same incidents time after time. People always ask the same questions. It is too much and I have decided to call it a day."
But her pal Allan Williams seems to have found a new lease of life as he is once more being sought out to talk to wide-eyed fans about how he helped to forge the Beatles into the world's greatest pop band. And then let them slip from his grasp on the cusp of fame and fortune.
At the Beatles Convention in Liverpool, Allan is also launching a new biography of his own wacky adventures in the wake of his "big Beatles blunder" more than 40 years ago, a tome aptly entitled The Fool on the Hill.
In the 240-page book Allan tells of his skylarking exploits at Beatles conventions across the world, antics that have amused and horrified friends and foes alike.

Astrid's new book sounds wonderful! I love all those early photos of the guys According to the Genesis site though, it's $650 and they're only printing 750 copies...
